Nasty Women at the Women's Convention
In late October 2017, three Nasty Women Get Shit Done PDX (NWGSDPDX) board members packed their bags and headed to Detroit to attend the Women's Convention.
The gathering, put on by the organizers of the Women's March, promised to provide women and their allies with the next steps to carry the momentum of their resistance forward into meaningful action.
Over the next few days, Ali King, Kirsten Hunter and Molly Lee would join more than 4,000 other women in cheering heroes of feminism such as Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Rep. Debbie Dingell and actress Rose McGowan.
The three would be able to learn from a selection of 170 workshops and dozens of panel discussions and strong speakers that delivered on the Women's Convention's promise to educate and empower attendees.
Linda Sarsour, co-organizer of the Women’s Convention said: “The goal here is for people to go back to their local communities and prepare for 2018 and to build power, register voters, engage more people, organize on a very hyper level.”
“Nothing is going to change unless we fight for it.” -Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
The three NWGSDPDX board members who attended the convention came back energized and inspired and ready to take the knowledge they learned back to Portland to continue their fight for the tenets on the “In Our America” flag.
